1845
In 1845, Karl Anton established a glass factory in Antonínův Důl, near Jihlava in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. This marked the beginning of Bohemia Jihlava’s journey in artisanal glassmaking. Anton utilized the region’s natural resources and local glassmaking techniques to create a successful glass production enterprise. The rich cultural traditions of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands played a vital role in shaping Bohemia Jihlava’s legacy in traditional glassmaking.
The land of Bohemia already gained great fame during the Renaissance for its beautiful and colorful glass. The discovery of new materials and techniques by Bohemian glass-workers was to ahead, their clear glass surpassed even Italian glass in quality. The term „Bohemian crystal“ was coined in the 16th century to distinguish it from glass made elsewhere, Czech crystal gained global recognition for its meticulous craftsmanship and traditional techniques. Renowned for exceptional quality and elegant design, Bohemia Jihlava prioritizes heritage, quality, and craftsmanship in upholding its reputation in the crystal market over our whole time of existence.
Bohemia Jihlava stands out in the design world by blending tradition and timelessness, functionality and beauty, and coarseness and elegance. Our design aesthetic celebrates raw beauty and artisanal touches, creating products that embody enduring values and rich Czech heritage. This commitment to precise design is not just a milestone in the company’s history, but a guiding principle that continues to shape our future.
Bohemia Jihlava’s “heart of glass” shines through each handcrafted piece, showcasing a deep love for the traditional art form. The brand is dedicated to perfecting every product, preserving the craftsmanship passed down through generations since 1845.
Bohemia Jihlava has continually pioneered and set new standards in the crystal industry, and one significant trend that we have initiated is the use of 24% lead oxide (PbO) in our Czech crystal production. This strategic decision was not just a technical modification, but a game-changing approach that propelled the brand to new heights of recognition.
The addition of 24% PbO gives their Czech crystal a unique and greater sparkle, enhancing its aesthetic appeal and transforming each piece into an embodiment of radiance and light. The higher lead content results in the perfect light transmission, adding to the optical properties of the crystal and creating a captivating play of light and reflections that is characteristic of Bohemia Jihlava’s products.
Beyond the aesthetic enhancement, the use of 24% PbO also illustrates Bohemia Jihlava’s commitment to pushing boundaries and exploring innovative ways to improve our craft.
Our commitment begins with carefully selected materials and skilled craftsmanship, resulting in delicate precision and superior quality. Each crystal piece is created by master craftsmen, showcasing the beauty of Czech crystal. It represents timeless elegance, dedicated craftsmanship, and the brand’s heritage.
